Join this session for tips on how to use your camera settings to creatively capture nature in a visually interesting way. We will be looking at composition, focus, and colour.

Many professional offices and places of business have large prints gracing their wall space of things such as fields of flowers, a butterfly perched on a leaf, and a single dew drop on a rose petal. These beautiful images are all around us in nature. It just takes that special "eye" to not only see it but to capture it in a way that will turn that simple little piece of nature into a beautiful piece of art. We will learn how to use different angles, light and shadows, and settings to make subjects pop.

Come along to our meetups to improve your art in a relaxed and social atmosphere, and under the guidance of a professional instructor. Complete beginners to experienced artists all welcome.

Our 2 hour meetups are held in a different location each time, usually outdoors.

Bring your own materials which can be anything from pencils or pastels, to watercolour or oils.

If you are a complete beginner all you need to start are a couple of good drawing pencils, a rubber, and a drawing pad.

Who can attend? Open to all skill levels, from beginners to experienced artists. The instructor is there to help everyone.

The meeting point and full details for the day are sent in the booking confirmation email to the email address you provide at time of booking.

Title or Location: Girl and her Monkey
Here is a new watercolor I painted based on a photo I took by a lake in upper Wisconsin several years ago.It is called ?Girl and Her Monkey,? and is 8 x 10 inches in size and prepared on Arch 140 lb cold pressed paper using Grumbacher Academy paints. Title or Location: Young girl and her turtle
I am continuing to explore painting that includes a person. I again used the Playground AI app (text-to-image software) to generate ?reference? images. In this case, I cut part out of image 1 and pasted it onto image 2 to reach my final version. Then I sketched that combined image onto watercolor paper and painted my picture. I call it ?Young Girl and Her Turtle.?It is 8 x 10 inches in size and prepared on Arch 140 lb cold pressed paper using Grumbacher Academy paints.

Title or Location: Young Girl in Flowers
Hi. If you've seen any of my paintings you'll notice they don't include people. I always thought that would be too difficult I'm ready to try something different. I also want to marry classical painting techniques with new technology. So I used a text to image AI software to generate a reference image. Title or Location: Dragonfly
I grew up in Whitehall OH, at the far west side of the city. The city line was a railroad track and around it there was a swampy area where I often saw dragonflies. Title or Location: Secretary Bird
I was watching a nature show and they featured the secretary bird. It was 4 foot tall and looked fearsome. It kills by stomping its prey to death! I recall it had blue feathers but I checked and it can also have red ones so I painted it that way.

Title or Location: Lucy
This is Lucy, one of our favorite family dogs. She is the sweetest pooch and loves to ride in the car, windows opened. She is in her glory as her ears catch the wind and almost smiles. I tried to capture her wonderful nature in this watercolor painting. I used very heavy pigment to give detail to her fur. I so love the many styles watercolor allows you to create. It is one of my favorite paintings because, I Love Lucy:)

Title or Location: Adventure Awaits
This scene is from an early morning boat ride in New Hampshire - we had been here a couple of times over the last few years. It was so quiet and the water so still . The early morning fog had not lifted and people were still not stirring. I snapped a photo when I saw this scene with the colorful leaves framing the waiting boats. I knew I would paint this one day. It?s a 24 x 30 gallery wrapped oil painting. It can be seen at the Elizabethan Gallery.

This is a detail style (aka meticulous style) painting done on a sized shuen paper known as glass paper. Sumi ink and a small brush are used to draw the outlines and a layer of ink washes are added for shading. Then multiple layers of Chines colors are added until the colors reach the intensity you want.
