Title or Location: AZ red and orange orchids
I recently visited Arizona. The condo I was staying in had many, many beautiful flowers. I particularly liked one with very small red and orange pedals. I used ChatGPT to try to identify what kind of flower it was. The AI misidentified them as orchids, but it generated a very pretty image. I used that as my reference and transferred a sketch onto watercolor paper and then painted it. It is 8 x 10 inches in size and prepared on Arches cold pressed paper using Grumbacher Academy paints and Ul

Title or Location: Girl with Maple Tree in the Spring
Hi. Here is a new watercolor painting. It?s call Girl with Maple Tree in Spring. It is the fourth in the Girl with the Maple Tree series. I followed my normal procedure where I generated a ?reference? image using Playground, transferred the image to watercolor paper, and then painted it. It is 8 x 10 inches in size and prepared on cold pressed Arches paper using Grumbacher Academy and Blick paints.

Title or Location: Magical Boy on Rabbit
Hi. Here is a new watercolor painting. I saw a painting of a little fairy boy riding on a rabbit. I recalled I had digitally painted one like that 5 years ago for a nephew. I pulled it out of storage and redid it. The original was set in the winter, and I wanted to switch it around to the spring. I used ChatGPT to transform it and simultaneously generate a ?reference? image. I transferred this image to watercolor paper and then painted it. It is 8 x 10 inches in size and prepared on Arches

Title or Location: Worlds in Transition ? Scene 1
I began a new set of abstracts this month. Normally I use the Playground AI software to create a reference image from some idea for a painting. This time I started with an abstract painting I had made from a photo I took a few years ago. I liked it but was curious what AI would do to it. So, I fed a pic of my abstract to the Design photo-to-image software, and it generated a new image. Similar, but also very different from my original. I used the output as my reference image. Title or Location: Hedgehog and Tap Dancer on Vaudeville Stage
Here is the second of two new commissions. Again, my direction was only that it must have a hedgehog. I wanted the two paintings to have a common theme, so I placed a dark-haired little girl on stage performing with her tapdancing hedgehog assistant. I translated what I wanted into words, selected a portrait orientation, selected the aspect ratio and fed that information into the Playground image-to-text app. I made a pencil outline of the major features of the generated image. Then I sc

I spent the summer of 2024 developing this art form. I am free-forming epoxy resin and fusing. This allows me to layer and make 3D sculptures and relief from a medium not typically suited for this purpose. At this time, I have not found anyone else who has done this with epoxy resin. It appears to be glass, but it's not.Artist Statement:Virginia Alden's artistry is a vibrant synthesis of nature and craftsmanship, where each piece is meticulously hand-formed or painted from epoxy resin. Title or Location: Sea Cubed collection
I?m passionate about the ocean and lived on it a majority of my life. I would even take my children to observe sea life, in several locations on the coast..Tide pools being one of my favorite! We could observe anemones, sea slugs, starfish and more. Years ago I applied to a school in their Marine Sciences program. I wasn?t accepted because I was a woman!Yeah and that dates me a little. The passion will never die.

In 2018, I had a stroke and forgot how to paint in watercolor. Recently I?ve been taking a few classes and reading a lot of how to books. The passing of my niece?s beloved pet, triggered me to try a realistic subject. She loves my painting and I think I did good.
